Buruliuk Fm
Type Locality and Naming
This is the uppermost formation in the Muzkol Gr
Synonym: Burulukskaya suite, Бурулюкская свита, Buruluk Fm
Reference section:
Lithology and Thickness
It is composed of quartzites; containing interbeds of quartz-mica crystalline slates, rarely sandstones and marbles. The incomplete thickness of the suite is 1200 m. The quartzites are medium and fine-grained, light gray and pink, massive or foliated. In the sandstones on bedding planes, wave ripples and shrinkage cracks are observed.
The slates are steel-gray and dark gray, quartz-mica, containing lenses (30 m) of marbles. In the basin of the river Belayuli, in the lower part of the suite, according to B. R. Pashkov (1964b), metabasalts, crystalline tuffs of acidic rocks, alternating in section with quartzites and mica-feldspar-quartz slates are noted.
The Buruliuk Fm completes the section of the Muzkol Gr. In the valley of the river Shatput in the upper parts of the suite, a 300 -meter thickness of medium andcoarse-gravel conglomerates. The pebbles are poorly sorted, but well-rounded and consist of fragments of the Muskol series rocks, cemented by crystalline disten-biotite slates. B. R. Pashkov (1964b) considers that the contacts of these conglomerates with the Buruluk suite are tectonic, and the age of the conglomerates is unclear.
